Ronnie Roberts


Major Ronnie Roberts is the Chief Deputy, appointed by Sheriff Lowe on January 1st, 2020. The major has more than 45 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career as a dispatcher with the Charlottesville Police Department in 1974 , was promoted through the ranks and worked a variety of roles for 40 years. Roberts served as a sergeant for 16 years and served as a lieutenant for 9 years. Where he was the point person for the community policing unit, traffic unit , school resource officer program and media spokesperson. He was also known for his ability to plan for events, UVa Football Operations, Presidential and other dignitary visits, Concerts at Scott Stadium, John Paul Jones Area and Fridays After 5, before retiring.  In October 2014 Ronnie accepted the position as Chief of Police for the Town of Louisa serving for almost 5 years. He modernized the department through grants with the emphasis on Community Policing.  Ronnie received his first supervisory training as sergeant through the University of Delaware and later a graduate and president of his class from the University of Virginia's National Command College.    

Ronnie's family ( Roberts's) originated in Mineral where is grandfather's family grew up. He later moved to Albemarle working for the University of Virginia until he retired. His mother would send Ronnie to work on her families farms in Albemarle County during the summers as a youth and teen.    

Ronnie is an avid history buff, a large part of his spare time was spent getting to know and meet the men of "Easy Company" also known as the “Band of Brothers”, a World War II Parachute Infantry Regiment of 101st Airborne Division. Ronnie is a “jumper” where he spent 2 weeks in Jump school and a member of the Airborne Demonstration Team, a WWII era jumper. Ronnie had the pleasure of spending 2 weeks with a veteran of Easy Company in Europe and traveling the same route taken from the beginning of the war on D-Day to the end at the Eagles Nest.
