LOUISA, VIRGINIA – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) is awarding Louisa County with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2018.
The GFOA established the Certificate Program to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles, and to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence a spirit of transparency and full disclosure. The program recognizes individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. Staff in the County’s Finance Department, with the capable guidance of the Louisa County Board of Supervisors, is primarily responsible for these efforts.
The GFOA ensures that the CAFR is judged by an impartial panel of peers to meet the high standards of the program, including clear communication of the County’s financial information. The format and depth of detail are designed to provide a clearer understanding of the financial resources utilized in providing essential services.
“Fiscal accountability and transparency are critical to our citizens,” said County Administrator Christian Goodwin. “We take these responsibilities seriously, and I’m grateful to Finance Director Wanda Colvin and her dedicated staff for their tireless efforts.”
