Enhanced DMV Services at County Office Building

The County of Louisa is working with Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to help citizens update their identification records to comply with the REAL ID Act that passed by Congress in 2005.

The federal REAL ID Act requires an updated/more secure driver’s license and ID card for specific purposes, including entering a federal facility or traveling by commercial airline. The deadline for compliance is October 2020 and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is ramping up efforts to help citizens get their new license.

For the benefit of our community, Louisa County and DMV are working together to provide a temporary full-service DMV location at the County Office Building. The first day will be Monday, March 25, 2019, from 2:00 -7:00 pm. The Health Department’s location in the County Office Building will be open as well to offer citizens the ability to obtain necessary documents that may be required to complete the REAL ID process. Additional dates will be advertised.

The temporary DMV office will offer full DMV services (both vehicle and identification services). The Mineral DMV Select, by comparison, offers only vehicle services. Learn more about the federal REAL ID requirement here.
