Hunter Education

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries offers a hunter education course that is only 8 hours of classroom instruction. This course requires students to complete some self-study online before the class. All students must submit the self-study chapter review exercise to the classroom instructor at the beginning of the class. Hunter education is required for all youth ages 12 through 15 and all first-time hunters in order to obtain a hunting license. Children under 15 must be accompanied to this class by an adult. Participants must pass test in order to receive certification. Participants MUST go online to take the self-study portion and print out the review exercise and register for the classroom portion that is held at the Betty Queen Center. There is also a FULL ONLINE course available with no classroom requirement on the DGIF website.
