Wisconsin-born, and Albemarle County-raised, David calls his music “locally-grown, soulful indie folk”.
As a life-long lover of music of all kinds-- jazz to blues, R&B to indie pop -- Tewksbury has been performing his original songs since 1998, beginning with the Charottesville jazz-pop band Image. In 2002, he started performing as solo artist. Inspired by art rock, jazz fusion and R&B on the radio, Tewksbury’s voice weds rock’s intensity to soul’s intimacy, with lyrics that cover the gamut from social justice to heartbreak to life-celebrating anthems. Van Morrison, Ben Harper, Amos Lee and Sting are solid influences in his delivery, while his inspiration comes from all corners of the musical prophetical-poetical world. His first full-length CD, "Sun is Rising," was produced by Butch Taylor at Ravensworth Studios in Scottsville, Virginia. That record, as well as his 2010 "Five Months from October," are available through iTunes and other online music sources.
