November 3, 2017 - Breese Glennon - Owner of the Boxley Place Inn. The Boxley Place Inn is one of many landmarks in Louisa that is in the National Register of Historic Places.
Why did you start your business?
"The renovations and restoration of the former residence of the Boxley family allowed me to open this historically important building to the public as a Bed and Breakfast and Event venue facility."
Tell us your backstory
"My Mother, Griswold Boxley had started the documentation for the building to be placed on the National Historic Register before she died. I finished that project and completed the designation for the Register for both the National and State. Over the years so many people who had stayed at the house, or attended parties and events at the house have had a chance to come back and enjoy the building and grounds. It was an important project to me and although it took 3 years...it was worth it."
Why do you love doing business in Louisa County?
"There are so many opportunities! There are really great people here! I have a great feeling for a bright future for Louisa given all of the wine and brew business. I love the combination of beautiful countryside, healthy agriculture and our fabulous Art Center."
What's the one thing your business is known for?
"People come to The Boxley Place Inn for affordable luxury, the historic significance of the building and the walk-ability to downtown restaurants and shops."
Biggest "win" in your business' history?
"When the building was approved for the National Historic Register it made it possible to have another local landmark for the community. Combine that with online reservations and special discounts for locals...we are working towards being the first choice for visitors and locals!"
Tell us a fun and interesting tidbit about your business.
"Even after all the renovations were complete in the Main House, it continues to surprise me that so many people want to see the basement!"
What is your advice for other business owners?
"Connect with other similar businesses and work together to find new ways to improve the networking and referral system in your area. Like a friend told me one time, "I only have 13 rooms, so everybody can't stay here; I need to be able to refer business to other venues and keep the business local."
