COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT STAFF and COMMITTEES
The Community Development Center Staff is staffed with professionals dedicated to ensuring correct planning, zoning and building practices are enforced in Louisa County. Located on the first floor of the Louisa County Office Building, the Community Development staff assists throughout the permit application process, subdivision approval process, and the scheduling of inspections. As mandated by state law, the Planning Commission is an advisory body to the Board of Supervisors who creates and recommends a comprehensive plan for physical development of the jurisdiction, develops and recommends a zoning code in accordance with the comprehensive plan, develops and certifies regulations governing the division of land, reviews conditonal-use permits and maintains an official zoning map for the jurisdiction. The Commission consists of seven members, one Board representative and one Town of Louisa representative.
MEETS 2ND THURSDAY OF MONTH - 7:00 P.M. (Standing Work Session at 4:30 P.M.)
The Development Review Committee is a subcommittee of the Planning Commission, formed to formally review development projects before they are presented to the Planning Commission for consideration. The committee is comprised of three planning commissioners, one Board of Supervisor, one citizen with development expertise and VDOT and VHDA as non-voting representatives. Meeting: 4th Wednesday of each month at 4pm in the public meeting room.
The Board of Building Appeals hears appeals from builders and/or building owners when it is asserted that the Building Inspections Department has improperly interpreted the Uniform Statewide Building Code. Appointments are made by the Louisa County Board of Supervisors, as required by the Uniform Statewide Building Code, Section 119.0, 2006 Edition, effective 1 May 2008. The Board of Zoning Appeals has appellate jurisdiction over applications for variances from the dictates of the zoning ordinance, applications for special exceptions from any zoning regulation, any decision of the Zoning Administrator, and over any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by any other administrative officer in the administration or enforcement of the zoning ordinance. Circuit Court Judge Appointed. Meeting: 3rd Wednesday each month, 7:00 p.m. Term: Five (5) Years
