On December 5, 2005, the Board of Supervisors passed a motion to have the Planning Commission begin a revision of Louisa County's Comprehensive Plan. This update included the County's growth areas, Shoreline Management Plan, and affordable housing.
On March 23, Community Development staff and the Planning Commission held an all day open house, to review the growth area section of the Comprehensive Plan. County staff presented several maps of the 2001 Future Land Use Plan and provided comment sheets for the public to give their input. Commission and Board members were also present to answer questions and hear feedback from the citizens. After the open house, County staff compiled a list of the public's comments. The public's input was the foundation for the proposed Future Land Use map.
On April 13, staff presented its recommendations to the Planning Commission during the Commission work session. Several citizens were present to see this first draft of the Future Land Use map. The public had an opportunity to make comments on these proposals during the Planning Commission's Public Address period.
On June 8, the Planning Commission recommended approval of the Comprehensive Plan updates, in a unanimous decision. Staff presented the Comprehensive Plan updates to the Board of Supervisors, on August 1. The Board scheduled a work session to discuss the plan, for August 28. On September 5, the Board of Supervisors approved the Comprehensive Plan updates, with a unanimous 7-0 vote.
