SOCIAL WORKER SUPERVISOR

DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES

 

Summary:

 

This position supervises staff that provide direct services for fostering and sustaining the social, health, economic, behavioral, and emotional functioning of individuals and families served by the local department of social services. Supervises, trains, leads and develops staff, and monitors case management services for child protective services, foster care prevention, and adult protective services/adult services.

 

Supervises social workers and case aides, sets and monitors objectives for program outputs and outcomes, prepares reports for program grants, provides clinical supervision for staff, recommends policy changes based on evaluation of program effectiveness, deals with difficult or dangerous cases, acts as the agency representative to the public for child protective and adult protective services and participates in planning and development of new resources.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services of minimum of Bachelor’s degree in any field and a minimum of four years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area (see Section 22VACC40-670-20 of the Administrative Code of Virginia). Two years of supervisory experience in child welfare and CPS Certification is required. Considerable knowledge of: principles and practices of effective supervision; of policies, procedures, and regulations relating to child protective services, foster care prevention and adult services/adult protective services; casework supervision principles, practice and treatment modalities; and social, economic, and employment challenges that face individuals, groups, and communities.

 

Demonstrated ability to: plan and manage work activities and assist others in their planning and management; develop programs and procedures; make decisions in difficult situations; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; write and prepare service plans; apply treatment and intervention approaches; interpret law, policy and regulations; supervise direct services staff working with clients; and train, evaluate, and develop staff.

 

Skill in operating computer and familiarity with Microsoft products and the operation of a motor vehicle.

 

Preferred Qualifications

BSW or MSW degree and Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license are highly desirable. APS certification and/or willingness to complete certification process. Forensic interviewing and/or family engagement training is also a plus. Considerable experience in the continuum of child and family services and completion of required training programs. Experience working with older and disabled adults and knowledge of available services.

 

Working conditions and environmental hazards generally associated with the performance of the essential functions of the position:

 

The regular workweek is Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a thirty-minute lunch break.  This position will require a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the department and the County to include evening, weekend and occasional holiday hours. Employee is subject to both inside and outside conditions; activities occur inside and outside in approximately equal amounts.

 

Strength requirement associated with the essential functions of the position:

Light to moderate work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
