TITLE: Temporary, Part Time Grounds Maintenance Technician

SUMMARY:
This is a temporary, part time position that performs
routine lawn maintenance and grounds upkeep of County property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Cut grass, weed eat, rake, mulch around shrubbery and
trees, pull weeds, lime, fertilize and aerate at County owned buildings
and park facility properties.
- Cut grass, weed eat, pick up and remove trash, and mark
out ballfield playing areas at school properties utilized by Parks and
Recreation athletics and Louisa Sports Association activities.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
- Mulch playground areas, make minor repairs of playground
equipment, and perform minor developmental procedures of current and
future park sites owned by the County of Louisa.
- Set up tables, chairs and other equipment for outdoor
County functions. Set up tent for County functions and volunteer
organizations.
- Do minor maintenance of County owned equipment.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Grounds
Maintenance Coordinator and/or the Director of Parks and Recreation.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Requires strong interpersonal skills, including the ability
to deal tactfully and professionally in order to work effectively as a motivated
member and maintain positive professional relationships with co-workers, the
citizens and public officials at all times. In addition, the position requires
the ability and desire to provide quality ground maintenance for Louisa County. Excellent time management and organizational skills, attention to detail
and the ability demonstrate initiative using good sound judgment also essential.
The position also requires schedule flexibility in order to meet the needs of
the operations of the Department and the County.
Must be 18 years of age with a valid Virginia Driver’s
license, a good driving record and the ability to meet and maintain compliance
with standards as set forth in the appropriate sections of the County of
Louisa Employee Handbook also required.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND WORK AIDS USED IN PERFORMING
THE POSITION:
- Lawn mower, weed eater, tractor, truck, bush hog, leaf
blower, trailer, various tools, safety equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS GENERALLY
ASSOCIATED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE POSITION:
- The employee is subject to outdoor environmental
conditions.
- Wet and/or humid: contact with water, ice or other liquids
or exposure to weather related humid conditions.
- Operates lawn maintenance equipment in which special
precautionary measures may need to be followed.
- Exposure to lawn chemicals including lime, fertilizers and
pesticides and others where deemed necessary.
STRENGTH REQUIREMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE POSITION:
- Heavy Work: Lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50
pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
TRAINING AND EDUCATION NORMALLY ASSOCIATED WITH
THE POSITION:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
